Obituary of Dorothy G. Whipple

Dorothy G. Whipple, 83, of 41 Pinedale Ave. Jamestown, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday (July 31, 2013) in her home. A lifelong area resident she was born August 2, 1929 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Charles and Aleda Johnson Johnson. She graduated from Jamestown High School, at the age of 16, and began her career working as a Secretary for the Prudential Insurance Company, in the Jamestown office, retiring after over 40 years of service. In previous years she attended Zion Covenant Church for many years where she participated in the Sunday school class and other activities. In recent years she was active member of the Salvation Army, the Ladies Aide Society as well as the Senior Citizens. She will be remembered as a loving, caring and supportive mother, aunt and friend to many people. She was the type of person you could talk to about anything and everything and touched many lives. She seemed to have a special gift for sending cards to her many friends and family and loved receiving them. She loved to watch her New York Yankees and she knew all of the player's names. She loved animals and had many over the years. Her daughter Lori stated "God gave me the most wonderful mother". Surviving are a daughter Lori M. (Russell) Piazza of Jamestown, two nieces; Cheryl Johnson (David) Scotty of Jamestown, Linda (Gage) Gottermeyer of Castro Valley, CA, two nephews; Raymond (Linda) Hedman of East Eddington, MA, Ronald (Cindy) Hedman of Homer, NY as well as several great nieces and great nephews whom she loved dearly. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William F. Whipple whom she married December 13, 1952 and who died August 28, 1993, a daughter Bethany Whipple, a sister Sylvia Hedman, a brother Paul R. Johnson and a nephew Dennis Hedman. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. Maj. Richard Best, retired Salvation Army officer will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 83 South Main St. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY 14701.
