Obituary of Janice C. Kohler

Janice C. Kohler of 2859 W. Oak Hill Rd, Jamestown, died On July 31 with her daughter and son by her side. She was born November 19, 1930 in Jamestown, the daughter of Carl E and Eyra Johnson Anderson. She attended Jamestown Public schools and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1948. Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia L. Ferraro of Webster, NY, a son Scott (Anna Mae) Jones of Clarence Center, NY and four grandchildren: Erica (Sean) O'Dell of Syracuse, NY, Mark Ferraro (Kathleen) of Rochester, NY and Matthew and Carolyn Jones of Clarence, Center, NY. She is also survived by a sister, Priscilla (Roger) DuBois of Jamestown and a brother Donald Anderson of Pittsford, NY several nieces and a nephew and great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband Howard Kohler who she married on October 21, 1978 and who died July 13, 1986, her mother who died in 1993 and her father who died in 1997. A former employee of Moore's Hardware in Frewsburg and Elkem Metals in Niagara Falls, she retired in 1994 as the secretary of the former South Elementary School in the Lewiston Porter Central School District in Youngstown, NY. Janice was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jamestown where she served in the church council and worked on several committees and was a member of many organizations of the church. She was also a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Frewsburg and Grace Lutheran Church in N. Tonawanda, NY and also served on their church council and took part in many of their organizations. She was a member of Ingjald Lodge No. 65 Order of Vikings, the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club auxiliary, and the Lewiston Porter Support Staff Retirees. An avid reader, she also enjoyed walking, knitting, and spending time with her family and friends. The family will receive friends from 11:30AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, August 5 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Frewsburg. A memorial service will follow directly at 1:00 PM.
