Obituary of Vincent S. Capizzi

Vincent S. "Jim" Capizzi Sr., passed away Sunday August 18, 2013 at the Heritage Green Rehab and skilled nursing facility at the age of 95. He was born February 26, 1918 in Weshaw, PA the son of Sebastian "Gus" and Josephine Abati Capizzi. Jim's mom died when he was 7 months old from the flu epidemic. His Aunt Josephine and Uncle Marion Cusimano helped Gus raise Jim. Gus married Rose Mistretta Capizzi and she raised him like her own son with the help of the Cusimano's. He attended Jamestown High School and was drafted into the Army Air Force in 1943 serving as Motor Pool Sgt. stationed in Myrtle Beach, SC until his discharge in 1946. Jim worked in woodworking as Finishing and Maintenance Foreman employed at Norquist Products, Union National, Van Stee Corp., and Klings Ethan Allen in Mayville. He also worked at WCA Hospital as a parking attendant. He enjoyed buying new cars and taking family trips to Myrtle Beach every year. He took pride in his family and was a devoted Christian person. He was a loving person who was always willing to help others. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and taking his grandsons fishing. He followed their sports activities as they grew up. He was very handy in fixing things and making various wood furniture. Jim was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Henry Mosher Post #638 American Legion in Falconer. Surviving are his wife, Laura DeMarco Capizzi with whom he celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in June; a son, Vincent S. Capizzi Jr. and wife JoAnne; a daughter, JoTina and husband Al Boutelle; four grandsons, Vincent J. Capizzi, John Capizzi, Kurt Boutelle, and Chris Boutelle; several cousins in the Buffalo area; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews in the Jamestown area; a brother in law, Frank Martinelli Sr. and nephew Frank Martinelli Jr. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Martinelli; a brother, Frank Capizzi; nephews Bobby Capizzi and Willie Hayes; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Buffalo area. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor, will be celebrant. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Entombment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. While a resident at Heritage Green, he took the hearts of many staff members and to them a big thank you and heartfelt appreciation.
