Obituary of June E. Carlstrom

June E. Carlstrom, 92, of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Busti, died Thursday August 29, 2013 in WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born June 10, 1921 in Jamestown the daughter of Charles Oliver and Elsie Rebecca Swanson Ericson. She was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School. For many years, June owned and operated J's Crafty Corner in Busti. Earlier, she worked at Sears Roebuck and Enterprise Variety Store. June was an avid reader and very involved in the community. She was a member of the Busti Church of God; Lakewood Busti Golden Agers; Thule Lodge 127; Norden Women's Club; American Legion Post 777 Auxiliary in Celoron; American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation; Busti #11 School Girls; and she volunteered with Chautauqua County Meals on Wheels. Additionally, she was a founding member in 1947 of the Busti Homemakers Home Bureau of Chautauqua County; past president of NYS Home Bureau Inc.; past president of Sugar Grove American Legion Post 758 where she was a member for 50 years; member of the Chautauqua County Women's Fair Committee; Past Noble Grand of Sunnybrook Lodge 507 Rebekah's; Queen Mum of the Chatter Box Cardinals Red Hatters; and she was a 4H leader for the Busti Busy Babes for 20 years, and served on the 4H executive committee for over 60 years. Surviving are four daughters, Cimberlee (Michael) Blake of Busti; Caryl (the late Philip) Pickup of Ellington; Cheralee (Steven) Rater of Georgia; Cynthia (the late Richard) Keithley of Alexandria, IN; eight grandchildren, Tamara (Steve) Creel of Alexandria, IN; Scott (Dianna) Pickup of Woodstock, GA; Tab Wright of Punxsutawney, PA; Mathew Pickup of Ellington; Mallaree (Michael)Blake-Lodestro of Chicago; Courtnee Blake of Busti; Trevor Rater and Catelinn Rater, both of Statesboro, GA; two step grandchildren, Tonie Wirsen and Tammy Miani, both of Jamestown; seven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and four great great great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred G. Carlstrom whom she married December 23, 1939 and who died June 25, 1998; a brother, Robert Ericson; and two sisters, Jeannette Rashley and Marilyn Garfield. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Roy Ferguson, pastor of Busti Church of God will officiate. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hazeltine Public Library, 891 Busti Sugar Grove Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.
