Obituary of Robert L. Tordella

Robert L. Tordella, 71, of Ashville, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday (August 30, 2013) at his home. An area resident for most of his life, he was born July 6, 1942 in Chicago, IL a son of the late Paul J.. and M. Eileen Ginther Tordella. Bob was a 1960 graduate of Campion High School in Prarie du Chien, WI and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. Bob was part of the family owned business, Jamestown Flooring and before retiring had owned and operated Tordella and Palm, Inc. for nearly 30 years. During his adult years, he was involved in the Knights of Columbus, Am Vets Post of Sugar Grove, PA, War Vets Recreational Club, was a charter member of the LLAMA Club in Ashville and a member of the Maplehurst Country Club. He was a man of few words, except when he was speaking about his grandchildren, his wife of 51 years, sweet corn, clams, hunting, model airplanes and go karting. Bob's most recent passions were flying radio controlled airplanes with the Button Valley Bombers and go karting at Hilltop Raceway. The friendships that were created through these activities filled him with joy. The family knows Bob's life will leave a permanent stamp on their lives. Bob is survived by his wife Karen Sandbloom Tordella whom he married November 23, 1961, two sons; Robert L. (Barbara) Tordella, II of Ashville, NY, James R. Tordella of Hopkinton, MA, four grandchildren; Andrew R. and Lauren E. Tordella both of Ashville, Juliana E. Tordella, Claudia E. Tordella both of Hopkington, and a brother William (Karen) Tordella of Bemus Point, NY. He was preceded in death by his father who died in 1975, his mother who died in 1990 and a brother Thomas M. Tordella who died in 1978. A service and memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, September, 3, 2013, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Button Valley Bomber R/C/ Airfield, Tordella property, Button Valley Road, Ashville, NY. A prayer service will be led at 2:00 p.m. given by Rev. Steve Taylor, pastor of the Panama United Methodist Church. The family requests that memorials be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701, to New Leash on Life, Celoron, NY 14720 or to the Hilltop Raceway, 260 King Rd., Clymer, NY 14724. .
