He was chaplain at Camp Mission Meadows for several years and following retirement preached at Camp Chautauqua during summers as well as area churches as requested. He was an active community member volunteering on the boards of Jamestown Urban Renewal and Covenant Manor. He also involved for many years with the Great Lakes Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. An avid sportsman, he was a member of the YMCA and enjoyed golfing, racquetball and badminton. Music was also a big part of his life. He was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice and shared it with people through singing solos and as a member of choir and quartets. Surviving are his wife the former Rosemary Lundeen, whom he married September 27, 1952; two sons Bruce (Nancy) Johnson and Gregory (Grace) Johnson both of Jamestown; eight grandchildren Seth (Cindy) Johnson of Olean, Anneli Johnson of China and Cael, Asa, Thaddeus, Tage, Kiah and Abigail Johnson all of Jamestown and two great grandsons Landon and Micah Johnson.
