Obituary of Shirley C. Brace

Shirley C. Brace, 89, of Hultquist Place, formerly of 1118 North Main St. Jamestown, passed away at 6:20 a.m. Sunday (September 16, 2013) in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born March 22, 1924 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Gerald C. and Berenice Hoyt Cheney. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and before her retirement was employed by the Sears Roebuck Company working in the credit department for many years. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed watching her granddaughters sporting events and made several trips out of town supporting her team. She also enjoyed going to flea markets, garage sales and antique auctions. She was a member of the Antique Study Club and the West Ellicott Senior Citizens. Surviving are a daughter Kathy A. (Mike) Johnston, a son Kevin H. Brace both of Jamestown, a granddaughter Brittany Ann Brace, a student at SUNY Brockport, a step-granddaughter Juli Bird of Chandler, AZ, two step-great grandchildren Ella and Rachel Bird, a sister Joyce Bracey of Jamestown and a brother in law Roger Anderson of Lakewood. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Howard E. Brace whom she married March 1, 1947 and who died April 19, 2003, and a sister Barbara C. Anderson who died March 19, 2009. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick LaDue, pastor of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and for one hour prior to the service on Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to the Falconer Public Library, 101 West Main St. Falconer, NY 14733.
