Obituary of David James Caloren

David James Caloren, 62, of Bemus Point, lost his battle for life following a hero's battle to live at 1:23 a.m. Friday (September 20, 2013) in the Cleveland Clinic. He was the husband of Phyllis Morton Caloren, whom he married July 28, 2001. David was born August 12, 1951 in Ogdensburg, NY, a son of the late James and Dorothy Denny Caloren. He had retired as a regional supervisor for Henkels & McCoy Telecommunications Co. and was a Professional Great Lakes Charter Boat Captain as well. A true outdoorsman, David was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, planting gardens and walks outside. He took great pleasure in teaching children to hunt and fish over the years. David was a Buffalo Bills fan when they were winning and a Steelers fan of late. He was also a fan of the Yankees and had formerly played semi-professional baseball as a pitcher. David loved people. He was adored by everyone with whom he came in contact and will leave a large hole in the hearts of many. His family quietly knew he was also secretly mad about his cats. David is survived by the loves of his life, his wife, Phyllis and five children: James Brian Caloren of Bemus Point, Stephanie Lyn (Chris) Burgstrom of Rochester, NY, Jordan Carris-Caloren of Bemus Point, Charity Joy Carris of Jamestown and Heather-Marie VanDorn of Seattle, WA; a granddaughter, Gianna Marie Caloren of Miami, FL; two sisters: Cheryl Monpetit of Ogdensburg, NY and Sandra Quigley of Simsbury, CT; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Katherine Harrison; and an infant brother, James Caloren. The funeral will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan W. Anderson will officiate. Friends will be received for two hours prior to the service, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lind's. In lieu of flowers, David's family asks that memorials be made to the Make A Wish Foundation of WNY - marked for a Kids' Fishing Event, 4600 Main St., Suite 101, Snyder, NY 14226; or to Camp Good Days, 1332 Pittsford Mendon Rd., Mendon, NY 14506.
