Obituary of Martha J. Nelson

Martha J. Nelson, 100, formerly of Jamestown and Frewsburg, died Sunday September 29, 2013, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing. Born in Jamestown February 22, 1913, she was a daughter of Anton and Hilda Greenland Berglund. She was a 1931 graduate of Jamestown High School, was employed by Bigelow's Department Store and was also an Avon representative. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and its Cradle Roll. Other memberships include Home Bureau and Viking lodge. She enjoyed playing poker with her friends. Surviving are two children Jeffrey Nelson of Jamestown and Carolyn Kibler of Hudson, NY; five grandchildren Tammie Donato and Peter Nelson of Jamestown, Jacquelyn Nelson of Ithaca, NY and Daniel and Michael Kibler of Hudson and three great grandchildren(Greta Becker, Adam Donato, and Andrew Nelson, and two great - great granddaughters Olivia and Brooklynn Becker. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Nelson, whom she married May 28, 1937 and who died August 22, 1987 and three sisters Ethel, Gladys, and Doris. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Chapel of First Lutheran Church. Rev. Daniel K. Nagle will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from1:00 to 2:00 at First Lutheran Church before the Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, 120 Chandler Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
