Obituary of Otto A. Hatfield

Otto A. Hatfield, 100, of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Sacred Heart Home, Oregon, OH, formerly of Ripley and Jamestown, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at his residence. The last of ten children, he was born September 1, 1913 in Armour, South Dakota a son of the late Otis and Lucinda Parsons Hatfield. He was a graduate of Ripley Central School. Otto was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from January 19, 1943 to January 31, 1946 during World War II. During his tour of duty he served in the South Pacific and Hawaii earning the American Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Before his retirement years he was employed by Burgeson Wholesale in Jamestown. He had later worked for the Hildom Block Company and finally worked as a security guard for Pinkerton Security Agency. He was a member of the former Grace United Methodist Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had also been a member of the Commercial Travelers. Surviving are two sons, David Hatfield of Hudson, FL, Richard (Lory) Hatfield of Ashville, NY, four daughters, Susan Stewart, Debra Hatfield (Tod Ness), both of Jamestown, NY, Barbara (Joe) Muzzo of Lakewood, NY, Penny (Leon) Sutton of Frewsburg, NY, his daughter in law Ronda Hatfield of Ashville, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and his care giver for many years at Sacred Heart Home, Chris Ferguson. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ira, Edgar and Ward Hatfield and six sisters, Vera Lindberg, Emma Frost, Mae Dawson, Clara Pierce, Alice Matlock and Ethel Nieman. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. His son, Richard Hatfield will officiate. Burial will be in the Quincy Cemetery, Ripley, NY. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Friday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Sacred Heart Home Memorial Fund, 930 South Wynn Rd., Oregon, OH 43616.
