Obituary of Richard E. Sanford

Richard E. Sanford, 90, of 200 Hallock Street, died Sunday December 1, 2013, in WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born March 15, 1923, in Jamestown, a son of the late Earl and Cecilia Young Sanford. He was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown Business College. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army. He was employed by Jamestown Public School System as a custodian with the majority of his career spent at R.R. Rogers Elementary School. He retired at age 70. He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club ad Herman Kent Post #777 American Legion. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife Mary Weber Sanford, whom he married April 19, 1952; three children William (Joyce) Sanford of Jamestown, Timothy (Debbie) Sanford of Perry, OH and Marie (Earl) Sanford Adams of Ravenna, OH; three grandchildren Donald (Allison) Sanford, Thomas Sanford and Amanda Adams; a great granddaughter Peyton Sanford; a brother Robert Sanford of Katy, TX; two sisters Dorothy Fiore of Jamestown and Ellen Seminski of Randolph and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Mende will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
