Obituary of Caroline A. Paddock

Caroline A. Paddock, 96, formerly of 42 Douglas Place and 182 Aldren Avenue, died Tuesday December 17, 2013, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She was born September 8, 1917, in Dayton, NY, a daughter of the late George and Angeline Falzarano Massar. She was a 1935 graduate of Gowanda High School. Prior to her retirement in 1974 she was employed by Jamestown Public Schools as secretary to the high school principal. She earlier had worked for W.T. Grant Company, Department of Labor and American Aviation and Duramold. Her memberships include Jamestown Women's Club, Thule Lodge and Allen Park Women's Club where she was past president. Caroline is remembered as a loving mother with compassion for all living things. Throughout her working career she was successfully able to work full time, maintain a clean, organized household, have a warm meal on the table and something in the freezer to serve if a guest stopped by. She also designed and made beautiful clothes including many classic formal dresses. She enjoyed dancing with her husband and traveling; especially enjoying the Western Circle Tour of the United States and a trip to Europe with her brother. She loved spending time with friends and her family. Caroline's family wishes to thank everyone at Heritage Park for the love, outstanding care and compassion they showed her and her family throughout the nearly 4 years that she resided there. Surviving is a daughter Roberta "Bobbie" (Jack) Thompson of Jamestown and brothers Alexander Massar of Tennessee, Joseph Massar of Germany, D.W. Massar of Little Valley, NY, Rev. Richard Massar of Lackawanna and George Massar, Jr. of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Paddock, whom she married June 17, 1937 and who died September 18, 1994; a sister Carmella Stark and two brothers B. William Massar and Thomas Massar. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Cathy Smith, Chaplain of Hospice Chautauqua County will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
