Obituary of Philip J. Sperry

Philip J. Sperry, 81, of 49 High Acres Drive, Bemus Point, NY, passed away unexpectedly Saturday December 21, 2013 in his home. He was born May 21, 1932 in Corry, PA the son of the late Earl H. and Margaret Shields Sperry Sr. Philip was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving from 1950 to 1954. Prior to retirement, he was employed at Weber Knapp Corp for many years. He had a great love of airplanes, and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. He also enjoyed bowling, gardening, photography, and was a talented pencil sketch artist. Surviving are his first wife and the mother of his children Dorothy May Sperry of Mayville; his three children, James Sperry of North East, PA; Jeanne Sperry of Ellington; Amy Sperry of Dewittville; three step children, Larry (Karen) Ford and Rick (Debbie) Ford, both of Jamestown; Bonnie (Brian) Whalen of Bemus Point; 17 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters, Theresa Massa, Mary Ann Sperry; and a brother, Kenneth (Joyce) Sperry, of PA. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Rosalinda Sperry whom he married December 14, 1974 and who died January 2, 2011; and two brothers, George Sperry and Earl Sperry Jr. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday December 27, 2013 in the Fluvanna Community Church. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
