Obituary of Allen Roger Bartoldson

Allen Roger Bartoldson, 78, of 68 Houston Avenue, West Ellicott, died unexpectedly Monday December 23, 2013, in WCA Hospital. A native of Jamestown, he was born May 8, 1935, a son of the late Fred and Eva Johansson Bartholdson. He was a 1953 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the US Army from 1953-56. Over the last 20 years he was employed by Jamestown Public School System as a bus driver. Prior to that he was employed by John Hancock Insurance and from 1958-79 he and his parents owned and operated Star One Hour Cleaners. He was a member of Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Herman Kent Post #777 American Legion, War Vets Recreation, Vikings and the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce. An avid sportsman, he excelled in baseball and football. This led to his involvement as one of the founders of Jamestown Midget Football League. He also enjoyed playing golf, fishing, skiing and spending time at the beach by the ocean. He loved and was loved by his family. He adored them and they loved him unconditionally. He had the kindest, most gentle heart and his smile could light up any room. Surviving are his wife Patricia Smith Bartoldson, whom he married November 21, 1969; five children Brian (Monica) Bartoldson of Philadelphia, PA, Craig (Elaine) Bartoldson of Martinsburg, WV, Julie Bartoldson of Buffalo, NY, Kevin (Laurie) Schauman of Jamestown and Scott (Erin) Schauman of Canandaigua, NY; eleven grandchildren Jennifer (Tommy) Fox, Courtney, Bradley, Megan and Brynn Schauman, Lindsay (Zach) Whited, Brain Bartoldson, Jr and Rachael, Andrew, Lauren and Mitchell Bartoldson; three great grandchildren Giada "Scooter" Schauman, Brianna Fox and Lochlan Whited and a step brother Chester Smith, Jr. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Roy Bartoldson and step father Chester J. Smith. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. William Blair of New Creation Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
