Obituary of Arthur S. Wahlstrom

Arthur S. Wahlstrom, 80, of 1998 Camp Street Ext. passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Jeanne Bacon Wahlstrom, whom he married April 23, 1955. Art was born February 1, 1933 in Jamestown, a son of the late Alvar and Hilda Beckstrom Wahlstrom. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1950 and was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1953 to 1955. Art was employed by Sandberg Sprinkler, Inc. for over 35 years, retiring in February of 1988, and was a member of the Sprinkler Fitters Union Local 669. Following retirement, his passions included woodworking and remodeling, interests born in earlier days when he built the Camp Street home they moved into in November of 1958. He always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. An active participant in sports, Art enjoyed basketball, golf, church league softball and ice & roller skating throughout the years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and very involved in the Senior Men's Group there. In addition to his wife, surviving are four children: David A. Wahlstrom of Jamestown, Kathleen A. Wahlstrom of Simi Valley, Calif., Brenda W. (Scott) Knipe of Bemus Point and Barbara E. (Bob) Tordella of Ashville; four grandchildren: Andrew and Lauren Tordella of Ashville, Nolan Knipe of Bemus Point, and Rachel Carlson of Simi Valley; three step-grandchildren: Tim, Travis and Leigh Ann Eklund of Jamestown; two sisters, Alice Carlson and Helen Weaver and a brother, Paul Wahlstrom, all of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Julie Wahlstrom who died May 3, 2012. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2nd at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the church.
