Obituary of Carol L. Greenwald

Carol Louise Greenwald, of Heritage Village Retirement Campus in Gerry, NY, age 93, formerly of East Randolph, NY and Kiantone, NY, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on December 29, 2013. She was born December 4, 1920 in Jamestown, NY the daughter of George and Mary Ketchum Ford. Carol attended school in Jamestown, NY, New York City, and graduated High School in Elkhart, Indiana. She then returned to Jamestown and later married C. Edward Greenwald, also from Jamestown. At age 42, she entered the Jamestown General Hospital School of Practical Nursing, and upon graduation was employed in the Pediatric Unit, which she enjoyed immensely. For a number of years while her husband and two boys were on vacation fishing, she would be seen in the boat with them, with her knitting bag, yarn and large knitting needles working on a sweater or afghan. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Stillwater United Methodist Church, East Randolph United Methodist Church, and lately Gerry United Methodist Church. Throughout these years, she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School classes, and was an active member of United Methodist Women, serving as President or Vice President for over 30 years either at the local church or at the District level. Carol is survived by three children, Donna (Earl) Brady of Nashville, NC; Brian (Nancy) Greenwald of Lakewood, NY; and Gary (Christine) Greenwald of Dahlonega, GA. She is also survived by her brother Marvin Ford of Wilmington, DE; ten grandchildren, Ron, Rick, and Russell Brady, Joanne Nelson, Janis Holland, Philip and Peter Greenwald, Katie Reid, Adam Greenwald and Amy Langworthy; 26 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Edward Greenwald, on March 29, 1991; an infant daughter, Mary; and her brother Rev. Robert Ford. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 2nd at 11:00 AM at the Lind Funeral Home. Visitation will take place Wednesday, January 1st, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
