Obituary of George H. Lindblad

George H. Lindblad, 98, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 6:58 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2014, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. An area resident since 2008, he was born November 15, 1915 in Orvilla, PA, the son of the late Carl August Wahl Lindblad and Anna Gordlund Lindblad. George joined the Pennsylvania National Guard on February 17, 1941 and served throughout World War II, in the U.S. Army, with the 111th Infantry Regiment, Company E as a Staff Sergeant assigned to the Western Pacific. After the war he studied at the Antonelli School of Photography, the Hussian School of Art and graduated in 1972 from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. George never stopped learning, taking countless courses and workshops at the Buck's County Community College, the Scottsdale Artists' School and filling his home with books. In earlier years he had worked for the Lithoplate Company in Philadelphia, PA, representing the firm to local printers as well as clients in New York City and in Buffalo, NY. George's many interests included horticulture, photography, music, drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, glass blowing, woodworking, and traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. On his travels he enjoyed keeping in touch with several of his G.I. Buddies. Surviving are his wife Ruth Safford Lindblad whom he married July 26, 1958 and by several nieces and nephews including David (Sharyl Solsbee) Seely, Carol Ellis, James (Martha) Seely and Kathryn (John) O'Hagan all of Jamestown, NY. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Harold Lindblad and his sister Alice Lindblad Thiee. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Natalie Hanson, pastor of the Christ First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
