Obituary of Marjorie B. McDonald

Marjorie B. McDonald, 90, of 4799 Steward Ave. Ashville, NY passed away at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born March 4, 1923 in Lancaster, NY a daughter of the late Albert C. and Grace Luella Vaux Bieber. She was a 1941 graduate of the former Lakewood High School and in later years was a member of the Ashville Crafters Group. Before her retirement in 1985, she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 18 years, working as the first female letter carrier in Lakewood, NY. During World War II she was a "Rosie the Riveter" at Bell Aircraft. She will be remembered as a very loving and giving person who saw the good qualities in everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Craig D. McDonald whom she married December 15, 1947, three sons; Dennis L. McDonald of Lakewood, NY, John C. (Debra) McDonald of Ashville, NY, Christopher L. (Dana) McDonald of Dow, IL, two daughters; Mary M. (Matthew) Ray of Norristown, PA, Jean A. (Scott) Lewis-Bean of Ashville, NY, five grandchildren; Jennifer (Kurt) Propheter, John McDonald, Jr. both of Ashville, Joshua (Irene) Lewis of Cheektowaga, NY, Billy and David Adams both of Dow, IL, five great grandchildren; Daniel and Tanner Propheter, William (Melissa) Bean, Holly and Sara Bean and her nieces and nephews Starr Gleason, Albert Gleason, Edward Gleason, Martha Jane Gleason and Grace Purtell. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Alice McDonald and a sister Dorothy Gleason. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
