Obituary of Ruth Louise Emery

Ruth Louise Emery, 94, formerly of 165 Shadyside Road, Lakewood, died Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was born March 28, 1919 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Clyde Lewis Emery and Frances Badgley White Emery. Ruth graduated from Jamestown High School in 1937 and attended Jamestown Business College. She had been employed over the years as a bookkeeper by Jamestown Stamp Co., Ulrich Plan Filing, the Fountain Bowl and lastly by Plastic Case Corp. in Frewsburg. She was a longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, where she served as their financial secretary for many years and enjoyed making coffee for their fellowship hour. Her favorite activities included gardening and bowling. Ruth's life centered on her family and friends, and on the gardens around her home. She had beautiful flower gardens and a very productive vegetable garden. She kept toys for visits from her young friends, and whenever children were present, "Aunt Ruth" focused her attention on them enjoying games, playing with dolls, building with blocks, sledding in winter and watching ducks on Chautauqua Lake in summer. Surviving are two nieces: Edith E. (Donald) O'Polka of Edgewater, FL and Esther E. (and the late Mario, Sr.) Cirillo of Bernardsville, NJ; two nephews: Paul W. (Sheridan) Emery II of Clayton, CA and John C. (Karen) Emery of Rockford IL; many nieces & nephews and great-nieces & nephews; and special friends, Jean and Bob Ostrander of Jamestown. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul W. and C. Lewis Emery; a niece, Rev. Joanne E. Nolan; and a nephew, Bruce A. Emery. A graveside memorial service will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery at a later date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church, 164 Shadyside Rd., Lakewood, NY 14750; the Alzheimer's Assoc. of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Dr., Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221-7380; or to a charity of choice.
