Obituary of Jean L. Hoyt

Jean L. Hoyt, 84, formerly of Sumter, SC, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 12, 2014 in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, surrounded by her family. She was born December 23, 1929 in Jamestown the daughter of the late George M. and Ellen M. Heglund Thornblad. Jean was a graduate of the former Celoron High School and had worked in the drapery department of the former Bigelow's Department Store. She was a member of the Saint James Lutheran Church in South Carolina and Bethel Lutheran Church in Jamestown. Jean was very active over the years at both churches, including membership in the Dorca Circle and singing in the choir. She enjoyed quilting and had a green thumb for indoor plants and outdoor gardening. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Donald R. Hoyt; a daughter, Frances (Gregg) Guichard of Lakewood; two sons, Patrick Hoyt (Jeffrey Seblink) and Timothy (June) Hoyt, both of Jamestown; seven grandchildren, Stephen Hoyt of Jamestown; Shannon Lee Sauder of MA; Amber Lee Arrance and Jack Lee Jr., both of Lakewood; Gregg (Amy) Guichard of Lakewood; Brooke Guichard of Jamestown; Danielle Guichard of NewPort News, VA; four great grandchildren, Jameson, Parker, Kathryn, and Ethan. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian F. Simmons. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan W. Anderson, pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
