Obituary of Roy Cissell

G. Roy Cissell, 87, formerly of 141 Brad St. and 4 Gertrude Ave., died Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was born in Bardstown, KY on June 9, 1926, the son of the late Joseph E. and Mary Craig Cissell. Roy had been employed by General Mills in Louisville, KY for 15 years and in Buffalo for 13 years. While in Kentucky, he also owned and operated Cissell's Tree Service. Roy then worked for Welch Foods in Westfield for 14 years, operating the Waste Water Treatment Plant and retiring in 1984. Following retirement, he enjoyed his McDonald's coffee group for many years. Surviving are three daughters: Carol (Ron) Spalding of Louisville, KY, Nancy Findlay of Burns Flat, OK and Elaine (Hugh) Golden of Jamestown; a step-daughter, Elizabeth (Jim) Snell of Olympia, WA; seven grandchildren: Christopher Spalding and Jennifer Spalding, both of Louisville, Dianne Carr and Jessica Fry of Pennsylvania, Gregory Bohall of Los Angeles, Jeffrey Bohall of Jamestown, and Katie (Adam) Johnson of Yorktowne, VA; three step-grandchildren: Alisa (Darren) Sprouffske, Angela (Owen) Pearson and Aaron (Sharon) Snell, all of Washington state; as well as six great-grandchildren. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, the former Alice M. Klimek, whom he married December 9, 1950 and who died February 3, 1985; and six sisters, Anna Rose Webb, Martha Davis, Evelyn Kirby, Ada Louise Sidebottom, Norma Jean Burney, and an infant, Betty Jean Cissell. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
