Obituary of Janet Lynn Vargeson

Janet Lynn Vargeson, 61, of 28 Campbell Ave., died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in the St. Vincent Health Center in Erie. She was born April 13, 1952 in Cuba, NY, one of four children of the late Cecil and Jeanette Peters Holmes, and graduated from Salamanca High School in 1967. Janet married Thomas Fluent in 1970, with whom she had three children. They divorced in 1984 and she later remarried Jerry Vargeson in 1992. They've lived together in Jamestown for the past 22 years. Janet served as Legislative Correspondent for two successive representatives in the 34th Congressional District - Stanley Lundine and Amory Houghton, Jr. After a successful career supporting the needs of the constituents in Western New York, Janet worked as Benefits Manager for Bush Industries in Falconer. Following her retirement from Bush, she went to work as an adult caregiver at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing in Greenhurst, retiring again in 2012. Janet was an active member of Christ First United Methodist Church. She loved to travel, was an avid walker and enjoyed reading, She was, however, most passionate about helping others. Janet is survived by her husband, Jerry; three children: Thomas Fluent of Milton, GA, Trisha Fluent of Johns Creek, GA, and Erin Fluent of Lakewood; two stepsons: Jody Vargeson of Elkland, PA and Jamie Vargeson of Sayre, PA; five grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Holmes of Fort Wayne, IN and sister, Julie Clooney of Little Valley, NY. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Holmes. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday at Christ First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Natalie Hanson will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received in Darrah Hall of the church following the service Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Christ First United Methodist Church, 663 Lakeview Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
