Obituary of Doris L. Anderson

Doris L. Anderson, 90, of 19 Elmwood Ave., WE, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 in her home. She was the widow of Harold W. Anderson whom she married December 26, 1946 in Zion Covenant Church and who died October 4, 2002. Doris was born in Jamestown on June 15, 1923, a daughter of the late Arthur and Anna Olson Anderson, and was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School. In early years, she had been employed by United Lumber and as assistant credit manager at Frederick W. Donnely's Men's Department Store in Trenton, NJ. Doris retired from the Jamestown Post Journal after working many years in the editorial department. During her newspaper years, she was most proud of her work compiling election district results during elections, as well as the many local high school graduating class lists. A member of Zion Covenant Church, Doris was a former president of the Glidden Avenue Mother's Club, former member and president of the Postal Workers Auxiliary, and former member of the Eagles Club and VFW Auxiliaries. Doris loved taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved decorating her yard with flowers every spring. Throughout the years, Doris and her husband enjoyed roller skating, dancing and the outdoors. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Steven) Leburg of Jamestown; a son, Jeffrey (Ann) Anderson of Ashville; four grandchildren: Britta (Kyle) VanAkin, Stephanie Leburg and Travis Leburg of Jamestown, and Kai Anderson of Ashville; and a great-granddaughter, Lola Grace VanAkin of Jamestown. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Amanda Amelia Leburg who passed away April 1, 1984; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Wally Carlson. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Deacon Cathy Smith, Hospice Chaplain, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Thursday Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W.
