Obituary of Russell Mazzurco

Russell Mazzurco, Sr., 79, of 403 Cole Avenue, died unexpectedly Wednesday April 23, 2014, in his home. A native of Tortorici, Italy, he was born September 24, 1934, a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Parasiliti Mazzurco. Following completion of school in Italy he served in the Italian Army for 2 years. He came to the United States in 1961 and worked at Art Metal, Inc. In 1969 he and his two brothers opened Columbia Market on 2nd Street which they ran until 1998. In 1999 he founded Papa Joes Laundromat. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. He was a member of Jamestown Moose Lodge, American Legion, Real Estate Investors Association of Jamestown, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and the Bocce League. He loved puttering around the house and working in his garden. He also enjoyed outings to the casino. Surviving are two children Christine (Donald) Rhinehart of Jamestown and Russell (Cindy) Mazzurco, Jr. of Jamestown; two grandchildren Jessica (Patrick) Barker of West Seneca, NY and Joseph Mazzurco of Jamestown and two brothers Carl (Donna) Mazzurco and Sebastian (Gerri) Mazzurco, both of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Mole Mazzurco, whom he married in 1962 and who died in 1987. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church. Rev. Darrell Duffy will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 7:45 p.m. You may light a candle in remembrance of Russ at www.lindfuneralhome.com.
