Obituary of Doris M. Carlson

Doris M. Carlson, 83, of 226 Tower St. Jamestown, passed away at 11:50 a.m. Friday April 25, 2014 peacefully at home with her family by her side. A lifelong resident of Jamestown, she was born July 22, 1930 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Clayton and Irene Cull VanNatter. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1948 and looked forward to reunion times with her classmates, often serving on the reunion committees. Doris enjoyed baking and was well known for sharing tins of Christmas cookies with many relatives and friends. She adored children and loved spending time with her grandchildren, Kate and Tim, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Doris was also a caregiver in her home for many children over the years. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and created many gifts that were much loved by their recipients. Doris treasured time spent with her family, gathering often with her dear sister, Betty, and her family for summer picnics, birthdays, and holiday meals. She loved her home and had lived on Tower St. for 56 years. She was blessed by the companionship and care giving of her daughter, Cindi, which enabled her to remain in her home. Doris will be remembered as a loving, caring, and generous person by all who knew her. She is survived by her two daughters: Cindi Carlson of Jamestown, and Christine (William) Anderson of Libertyville, IL.; two grandchildren: Kate (Kevin) Reilly of Lake Bluff, IL., and Tim(Ali) Anderson of St. Louis Park, MN.; two sisters: Betty Anderson of Jamestown, and Marilyn Povlock of Hudson, FL.; several nieces and nephews including Greg (Christina) Anderson, Jack (Karin) Anderson, Lori O'Connor, and Nancy (Harold) Sandbloom; and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted H. Carlson, whom she married May 27, 1950, and who passed away Sept. 29, 1994; and a brother in law, Clare Anderson. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Zion Covenant Church. Pastor Rick Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W.
