Obituary of Donald N. Sandberg

Donald N. Sandberg, 87, of Jamestown, NY, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, April 28, 2014. Born to Harry and Ethel Sandberg, he lived most of his life in Jamestown. Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol; sons Rick W. (Diane) and Steven A. (Patricia); grandchildren Rodney (Ashley), Anna, Ryan, Erick (Cammy), Nathan (Geraldine Gladden) and Benjamin; and great-grandchildren Gaven and Gabrielle. He is also survived by a brother, H. Alan, and several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shirley. Donald served his country in the US Navy and the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. From 1962 to 1968, he served his community as a member of the Falconer Central School Board of Education. He served his Lord as a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was a member of the church council, Immanuel Partners and the Senior Men's Group. Don was a graduate of Celoron High School and made his career with Sandberg Sprinkler and Piping Company where he was a fire protection systems designer for over 25 years. He was proud to be a life member of Sprinkler Fitters Local Union 669. Donald was a kind and gentle man whose first passion was his wife and family, and his second was building construction. He built a cabin overlooking Lake Erie and a beautiful home in the country. He was always there to help family and friends with household projects. Active in high school sports, he also golfed with several local leagues. He was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and the Independent Order of Vikings, Ingjald Lodge #65. The family thanks WCA Hospital, Hospice of Chautauqua County and Lind Funeral Home, with a special thank you to his caregivers TEAM Terri Lynn: Carlie, Amanda, Lisa, Danny and Marguida, for their loving care and support. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 3rd in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends for 1 ½ hours prior to the service, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Saturday in the church. Donald will be laid to rest in Lake View Cemetery at a later date.
