Obituary of Lynn E. Volk

Lynn E. Volk of Cuba, New York, formerly of Jamestown passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 9:45 a.m. in Mercy South Buffalo Hospital the result of a stroke suffered on Monday, April 28th. Lynn was born December 13, 1957 in Jamestown, NY to Robert and Sylvia Williams Volk. He was a 1976 graduate of Southwestern Central High School and had worked at Falconer Glass Industries for over 14 years as a Silver Technician. On August 11, 1990, he married Janice Eichelberger of Westfield, New York. After Falconer Glass closed, Lynn enrolled at Jamestown Community College. He later transferred to Gannon University of Erie, Pennsylvania where he earned his Associates Degree in Health Sciences (Psychology, Chemistry and Philosophy). Lynn worked as a Diagnostic Radiographer at Olean General and St. Francis Hospitals in Olean, New York. He earned his diploma and specialized in Bone Densitometry utilizing the model 'Lunar Prodigy' at the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital's Women's Healthcare Center. At Jones Memorial Hospital, he was tutored by Dr. Ayub-Radiologist, and became a Senior Medical Imager of Computerized Tomography (CT). He used his training to submit proposals to the Board of Cuba Memorial Hospital where he worked 'on-call' to further their expansion measures. Actively pursuing training, Lynn ventured southeast to Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania where he became a multi-modality Imaging Specialist for the 200-bed community based healthcare facility. He was a member of Our Lady of The Angels Roman Catholic Church of Cuba and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lakewood. During his younger years he was proud to have earned the Ad Altari Dei award from the Boy Scouts of America through Sacred Heart Church. Besides his wife of Cuba, NY and parents of Jamestown, Lynn is survived by his three daughters, Shana D. Hitchcock (Luke) of Fort Mitchell, Alabama, Alexandria H. Volk and Broque Lynn Volk both of Cuba, NY. Three Sons, Kheland B. Volk (Chelsea), of Allentown, NY, Adam Volk, of Charlotte, NC, Aarron Volk (Shari) of Pittsburgh, PA; brothers and sisters, Lucinda Pearson, Connie (James) Glace, Roger (Christine) Volk of Jamestown, NY, Robert W. (Marcela) Pineda-Volk of Chambersburg, PA; and father in law Charlie L Bryant of Westfield, NY. Lynn was also blessed with five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Sheila Volk of Jamestown, NY and his mother-in-law, Jonnie M. Bryant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday May 16, 2014 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, NY. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday May 15th in the Lind Funeral Home.
