Obituary of Harold E. Alden

Harold E. "Bud" Alden, 90, of 142 Myrtle St. Jamestown, passed away at 9:17 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, in his home. A lifelong area resident, he was born February 17, 1924 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Gustav and Christine Johnson Alden. He was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from August 27, 1943 to August 30, 1945 during World War II. During his tour of duty he had received the Purple Heart Award, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Distinguished Unit Citation. Before his retirement he was employed by the Weber-Knapp Company for 8 years and had previously worked for the former Watson Manufacturing Company for 31 years. Bud was an avid golfer having belonged to the Maplehurst Country Club for many years. He was also a member of the Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Order of the Vikings and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Surviving is his son, Steven D. Alden with whom he made his home. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Lillian Eckstrom Alden whom he married August 20, 1955 and who died May 14, 2005 and a brother Donald H. Alden who died October 7, 2009. A memorials service will be held at a date and time to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.
