Obituary of M. Richard Jankoski

M. Richard Jankoski, 93, of 15 Hilldale Avenue, died Tuesday June 24, 2014, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. A lifelong Jamestown resident he was born August 12, 1920, a son of the late John and Hedwig Switalski Jankoski. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1938 and served in the US Navy during WWII. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed by Dowcraft as a manager. He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was a member of the Elks Club and former member of Moonbrook Country Club and War Vets. He and his wife Evelyn enjoyed many years of retirement as they shared a passion for good cooking and beautiful gardens. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed sharing stories on the 19th hole. Surviving are stepchildren Sam (Antoinette) Marchiando of Rochester, NY, Marcia Greenwood of Houston, TX, Tim (Carol) Marchiando of Cape Coral, FL and Jeanne Long of Greenhurst; fifteen grandchildren Robert, Daniel, Thomas and Joseph Marchiando, Debbie Hammond, Scott, Todd, Gary and Jason Greenwood, Gary and Shelly Holland, Kari Auer, Billie Jean Meyers, Anita Libby and Tammy Marchiando; several great grandchildren and a great friend Richard Andzel of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Mills Jankoski, whom he married August 11, 1963 and who died May 11, 2000; grandsons Richard and Ronald Holland and Timothy Marchiando and a sister Romaine Jankoski A private graveside service will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750.
