Obituary of Ernest A. Erickson

Ernest A. "Ernie" Erickson, 85, of 4210 Nutt Road Jamestown, passed away peacefully Wednesday July 9, 2014 at the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, he was born February 27, 1929 in Jamestown the son of the late Stein and Lillie Loberg Erickson. Ernie was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School and he attended Bethel College and the Baptist Bible Institute. He also served in the National Guard. For 35 years, he and his wife Doris owned and operated Erickson's Restaurant in Lakewood where Ernie always had a story or joke to tell. In earlier years, he worked as a salesman for Gerber Baby Food and Bond Bread. Ernie was a skilled carpenter who renovated several homes, the restaurant, and he built his own home. Ernie was a lifelong member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, serving as a Trustee for many years. He enjoyed working in the fields and woods on his tractor. Ernie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who always looked forward to family gatherings. Surviving are his wife, the former Doris H. Carlson with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary May 13, 2014; three children, Donald J. (Sue) Erickson of Panama; Cheryl (Randy) Swan of Asheville, NC; Keith (Wendy) Erickson of Lakewood; six grandchildren, Tate (Devoney) Erickson of Keene, NH; Cody Erickson of Panama; Joshua, Zachary, and Leah Swan all of Asheville, NC; Kara Erickson of Lakewood; and two great grandchildren, Grady and Griffin Erickson, both of Keene, NH. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Erickson who died February 26, 1972; and three brothers, Gunnard E. "Gunny" Erickson; S. Lawrence "Larry" Erickson; and Einard "Ike" Erickson. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hillcrest Baptist Church. The Rev. Mark J. Hinman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home.
