Obituary of Josephine L. Sanbury

Josephine Letta Sanbury, 86, of 715 Falconer St. formerly of West Ellicott, passed away at 5:20 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident, she was born April 30, 1928 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late James and Jennie Grilla Letta. Josephine married C. Arthur Sanbury on October 18, 1952. They were married for 55 years prior to his death in February 2008. She was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School. Before her retirement, she was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for the Jamestown Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 1681. In earlier years she was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Busti Historical Society and the Busti Lakewood Senior Citizens. She was also a co-chairman, with her husband, for the Busti Apple Harvest Festival for several years. Surviving are a daughter Debra S. Swanson of Jamestown, a son Ronald A. (Susan) Sanbury of Henrietta, NY, five grandchildren, Lori Swanson of Mauldin, SC, Craig (Sarah) Swanson of Baltimore, MD, Katie Swanson of Port Aransas, TX, Michael Sanbury of Cleveland, OH, Matthew Sanbury of Churchville, NY, and a sister Grace Munafo of West Seneca, NY. Josephine recently celebrated the birth of her first great grandson, Ryan Oliver Swanson on July 2, 2014. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Jennie Alaimo, Frances Ricker and a brother Dominick Letta. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Lutheran Social Services. The Rev. Timothy Phelps, Hospice Chaplain and the Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor of Holy Apostles Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Monday in the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY 14750 or to Lutheran Social Services Foundation, 715 Falconer St. Jamestown, NY 14701. The family would like to thank the staff of Hultquist Place and the Lutheran Home for their excellent care and loving attention given to Josephine over the past several years.
