Obituary of Charles M. Culhane

Charles M. "Chuckles" Culhane, 69, of Bayview Road Bemus Point, passed away Saturday August 2, 2014 in Select Specialty Hospital, Erie, PA. He was born February 4, 1945 in Hamburg, NY the son of the late Thomas and Margaret Battaglia Culhane. Charles was a 1963 graduate of Canisius High School and a 1967 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, earning his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He later graduated from the University of Buffalo with his Masters degree in Accounting (CPA). A US Army Veteran, he served as a 1st Lieutenant, flying a Cobra Gunship fighter helicopter. He was awarded the bronze medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces in the Republic of Vietnam in 1969 and several other achievement medals, including three purple hearts. He began his career in accounting at Price Waterhouse in Buffalo; he then was with Siedman and Siedman in Jamestown as a tax partner; and was senior partner with Lloyd and Co. in Jamestown. For the last several years, he was in private practice, Charles M. Culhane PC CPA. He also served on the board of directors of DeMoulin Bros. Band Uniform Co. in Greenville, IL for 20 years. In earlier years, he was an avid hunter, tennis player, and gun collector. Most recently, he enjoyed taking care of his flower and herb gardens. He loved boating on Chautauqua Lake and spending time with his two boys, and was a longtime member of the Chautauqua Lake Power Boat Club. He was all about Corvettes, his latest a 2000 model which came from the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. Charles was a devoted husband, father, friend, and soldier. Surviving are his wife, Julie Sorg Culhane; two sons, Craig Culhane and Ryan Culhane, both of Port Saint Lucie, FL; an aunt, Mary Agnes Grant of Erie, PA and her family of Chautauqua; his mother in law, Betty Lane Sorg of Jamestown; two brothers in law, Stephen Sorg of Jamestown; Dan Sorg of Concord, OH; a niece, Stephanie (Jason) Labovitz of Lakewood, OH; two nephews, Brendan (Carolyn) Sorg of Independence, OH and Kasey Sorg of Concord, OH. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Rob Sorg; and his father in law, Jim Sorg. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday August 7, 2014 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Miller will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Thursday in the funeral home.
