Obituary of Anna E. Ahlgren

Anna Lisa E. Nelson Ahlgren, 93, formerly of Mead Rd. Jamestown, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A Jamestown resident since her immigration to the United States in 1930, she was born October 18, 1920 in Varberg, Halland Sweden, a daughter of the late John and Alma Svenson Nelson. She had attended Jamestown Public Schools and was confirmed at the Zion Covenant Church in 1934. Before her retirement, she was employed by the Southwestern Central School System as a cook for over 27 years, retiring in 1979. In earlier years she was a seamstress for the former Fashion Clothes and also worked at the Marvin Community House for 8 years. Anna was a member of the Jamestown Salvation Army for over 75 years, where she was a member of the string band, the Evangeline Circle, the Ladies Aide Society, Senior Citizens and the Home League, where she served as Secretary in 1989. She was also a member of the American Scandinavian Association and the Swedish Society of First Lutheran Church. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved to cook and bake. She also loved spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are a daughter, Beverly A. White, a son, Vern N. (Sandy) Ahlgren both of Jamestown, two grandchildren, Lisa (Todd) Benson of Clermont, FL, Scott Atkinson of Los Angeles, CA and a great granddaughter, Brianna Buck of Clermont, FL. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Nels O. Ahlgren whom she married October 18, 1941 and who died November 19, 1988, two brothers, Evert Nelson, John Nelson and a sister Margit Mattson. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Major's Tom and Kathy Applin, Salvation Army officers of the Buffalo Area Services will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Jamestown Salvation Army, 83 South Main St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
