Obituary of Jeanette Joy

Jeanette DeTolla Joy, 88, of Valleyview Ave. Jamestown, passed away peacefully at 9:50 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2014, in her home. An area resident for most of her life, she was born May 12, 1926 in Fredonia, NY, a daughter of the late Angelo and Concetta Lombardo DeTolla. She was a 1944 graduate of Fredonia High School and a 1948 graduate of the former Fredonia Normal School. In earlier years she taught third grade at Falconer's North Side School for eight years. Jeanette was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church and was a member of the Chautauqua County China Decorator's Club. Jeanette was an extremely fine seamstress and always wanted to be a dress designer. She was also a fine artist and craftswomen where she enjoyed doing ceramics, macrame, crocheting, china painting and woodworking. Surviving are her three children, Vincent Joy, Jr., Kathleen Joy both of Jamestown, James (Kim) Joy of Pittsford, NY, her sister in law Josie Marino of Jamestown and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Vincent Joy, Sr. whom she married July 30, 1955 in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Fredonia, NY and who died December 27, 2013, two brothers, John and James DeTolla and a sister, Catherine Granto. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday in Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led by Rev. Mende at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry St. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to the Jamestown Boys and Girls Club, 62 Allen St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
