Obituary of Anthony J. Floccare

Dr. Anthony J. Floccare, 77, of Lakewood, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family in his last days. He was born December 21, 1936 in Jamestown, the son of the late Samuel J. and Katherine D. "Kate" Ditonto Floccare. Dr. Floccare attended Jamestown High School and received his degree in medicine from the University of Buffalo Medical School in 1962. He served as a Captain in the US Air Force from 1963 to 1965 during the Vietnam War. Following a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he began clinical practice in Jamestown in 1969, and later served in the administrative leadership of the WCA Hospital in the years before his retirement. Dr. Floccare will be remembered as a compassionate, caring physician with a warm smile who delivered thousands of babies in the Jamestown area. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed water sports, picnics, and bocce with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. He was an avid follower of his grandchildren's sporting events, a lifelong Yankees fan, and was ever hopeful the Bills would win a Super Bowl. Dr. Floccare was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lakewood, and was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, American Medical Association, and Jamestown Medical Society. Surviving are his wife of 57 years and childhood sweetheart, Norma J. DePetro Floccare whom he married June 22, 1957; three children, Dr. Douglas (Terri) Floccare of Baltimore, MD; Lisa (Scott) Cooper of Lakewood; Andrew S. (Lesley) Floccare of Georgetown, KY; 11 grandchildren, Lauren (Joe) Gagnon of Baltimore; Rebecca (Tom) Clark of Millsboro, DE; Christopher Floccare, Michael Floccare, both of Baltimore; Joshua Cooper of Miami, FL; Chad Cooper, Nicole Cooper, Nicholas Cooper, all of Lakewood; Leah Floccare, Troy Floccare, Nate Floccare, all of Georgetown, KY; a great granddaughter, Lucy Clark of Millsboro, DE; and a sister, Patricia A. (Gary) Leonard of Lakewood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor, will be celebrant. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W.
