Obituary of William D. Deane

William D. Deane, 63, of 88 Pershing Avenue, died Friday December 26, 2014, in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA. A native of Kane, PA, he was born May 19, 1951, a son of the late V. Norman and Barbara Davis Deane. He was a 1969 graduate of Kane High School and earned an Associates Degree in Accounting from Jamestown Business College in 1972. While growing up in Kane, he was employed by Bush's Pharmacy and Kane Auto Parts. After moving to Jamestown 1970, he worked at Nelson's Quaker State as a mechanic while obtaining an associates degree in accounting from JBC. In 1975 he joined the Jamestown Police Department as a patrolman. He spent the next 24 years working his way up through the ranks as a field training officer, sergeant, detective, detective sergeant and retired in 1999 as a lieutenant. Bill received the Educational Achievement Award and was a four-time recipient of the Exceptional Police Service Award. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Vikings, Celoron Moose, Chautauqua Lake Fish Club and the Kendall Club. He loved the game of baseball having played in Kane in his youth for the American Legion. He played softball for John W. Tiffany Post VFW and later played on the Old Timers Baseball Team. Regardless of league, Bill always took two and went to right. He was a tried and true fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers. Surviving are his wife Keta Campbell Deane whom he married November 24, 1971; three daughters Heather and husband Michael Whitehead of Granville, OH, Shannon and husband Jack Osborne of Jamestown and Erin Deane of Jamestown; eight grandchildren Sullivan, Shane and Quinn Whitehead, Grace, and Jack Harris Osborne, Ella and Ava Dale and Elijah Weise; a brother Robert and wife Sherry Deane of Camp Hill, PA; two sisters Diane and husband John Rutzler and Carol Deane of Carlisle, PA and his dog Ziva. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Robert J. Kasting will officiate. Burial will be in Gibbs Hill Cemetery, Ludlow, PA.
