Obituary of Verna M. Stornes

Verna M. Stornes, 91, of Jamestown passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 in WCA Hospital. She was the widow of Rudolph B. Stornes, whom she married November 6, 1948 and who died September 22, 2010. Verna was born in Jamestown on September 12, 1923, the daughter of the late Carl A. and Hilda Swan Carlson. She was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School. Throughout the years she had been employed by Dahlstrom Metallic Door Co., Jamestown City Court as a clerk, Taber Insurance Co. and in the offices of the J.C. Penney Store in Lakewood. In later years, she served as an Election Inspector. She also volunteered at the Soup Kitchen for many years. As a life member, Verna was baptized, confirmed and married at Bethel Lutheran Church. She was also a longtime member of Piecemakers, as well as the Kiantone Senior Citizens. Her many interests included square dancing, knitting, sewing, tole painting, crafts and gardening. She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (John) Howard of York, PA and Kathleen J. Stornes of Jamestown; two grandchildren: Nathan (Kelly) Howard of Lancaster, PA and Krista (Jabari) Whitehead of Ridley Park, PA; and four great-grandchildren: Kate and Cooper Howard of Lancaster, and Avery and Evan Whitehead of Ridley Park. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon A. Carlson. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9th in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel K. Nagle will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
