Obituary of Vernon S. Larson

Vernon S. "Bud" Larson, 84, of Memory Gardens, formerly of 64 Avalon Blvd. Jamestown, NY passed away at 1:08 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born November 16, 1930 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Levi G. and Gertrude Taylor Larson. Bud was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the New York Army National Guard for ten years. Before his retirement he was a meat-cutter for the former Pearsons Market on Newland Ave. for 38 years. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church until 1990 and most recently the Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Ingjald Lodge #65 Independent Order of the Vikings, Thule Lodge #127 VASA Order of America and was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, having 33 years as a scout explorer advisor and a Scout Leader for Troop #65. He was also very proud of his Swedish Heritage. Surviving are his wife, Marie "Pedie" Phelps Larson whom he married July 21, 1991, two daughters, Julie (Paul) Elliott of Nampa, ID, Joan (Dave) Hinderer of Panama, NY, a granddaughter, Megan Hinderer of Panama, a step-daughter, Karen Hays of FL, two step-granddaughters, Maia Hays, Kira Hays both of FL, also a brother, Donald Larson of Absecon, NJ, a niece, Ada Larson of Northfield, NJ and a brother in law, Jerry Lundgren of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife the former Nancy Lundgren Larson who died February 12, 1988, a brother Robert M. in 1992 and a sister Joan Lee in 1933 The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dana Douglas, pastor of the Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday (today) in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or to a charity of one's choice.
