Obituary of Edna L. Nelson

Edna L. Nelson, 84, of 95 Liberty St. Jamestown, passed away at 4:56 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2015, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born July 11, 1930 in Westfield, NY a daughter of the late James Vincent and Sybil Chase Spring. Before her retirement she was employed with her husband as custodians for Jamestown Community College for several years. In earlier years she was also a cook for the House of Petillo and the former Apple, Inn. She and her husband also owned and operated the former Pastime Restaurant in Lakewood from 1964-1970. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was an awesome cook and enjoyed doing crafts and collecting things. She was an avid sports fan of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres and so enjoyed watching the games with her family. Surviving are a son, Dana G. (Wendy) Nelson of Jamestown, three daughters, Pamela L. (Richard) Greenwood of Murrells Inlet, SC, Deborah J. Tracy of Lakewood, NY, Jodelle A. (John) LaBardo of Jamestown, 12 grandchildren, Richard Greenwood, Jr., Julie Herman both of NC, Lisa Johnson of Dewittville, NY, Shawn Tracy of Sinclairville, NY, Andrew Tracy of Lakewood, Ally Tracy of Warren, PA, Keri Sperl of Atlanta, GA, Samantha Nelson of Honolulu, HI, Eric Nelson of Boston, MA, Daniel Colburn of Jamestown, Amanda Colburn of Philadelphia, PA, Allison Colburn of Atlanta, GA, 11 great grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy LaMancuso of Jamestown. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Gunnard S. Nelson, whom she married February 12, 1948 and who died December 1, 2006, four brothers, James, William, Thomas and Peter Spring, two sisters, Winifred Mathis, Sybil Albro, a grandson, Robert H. Colburn, III and a son in law Robert H. Colburn, Jr. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray, pastoral associate of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Blind Association, 510 West Fifth St. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701.
