Obituary of Walter C. Cline

Walter C. Cline, Jr. 88, of 5109 Spooner Rd. Ashville, NY, passed away at 9:34 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born September 20, 1926 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Walter C. and Gladys Sanford Cline. Walt was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from October 2, 1944 to July 9, 1946 during World War II. Walt, along with his brother Harold, started Cline's TV on Foote Ave. He retired from the business as sole owner after 40 years of service to the Jamestown community. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, brother and uncle who enjoyed watching western movies, reading, doing crossword puzzles and building model ships. He also loved watching NASCAR Racing and football as well as roller skating and dancing. He was a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Ingjald Lodge 65, Independent Order of the Vikings, the Lakewood Memorial Post 1286, American Legion, Sugar Grove, PA AMVETS, and a member of the former Town Club. Surviving are his wife of almost 64 years, Hope E. Layman Cline whom he married April 1, 1951 his brother, Paul (Nancy) Cline of Chattanooga, TN, and his nieces and nephews, Dan Layman of WI, Paula Glover of TN, Patricia Armstrong of NH, Brenda Cline, Sandy Humphries both of NC, Cathy Pickham, Tina Raymond both of MT, Karan Bryant of GA, Diane Daddio of VA, Sharon Lawson o f AL, and Jay Davis of NY. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Harold Cline, a sister Ruth Davis and two nephews, Martin Layman, Rick Layman. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray, retired chaplain of W.C.A. Hospital will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to a charity of one's choice.
