Obituary of Mary W. Sanford

Mary W. Sanford, 83, formerly of 200 Hallock St. Jamestown, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the Emeritus of Mentor, OH, where she had resided the past several months. A lifelong Jamestown area resident, she was born June 10, 1931 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Fred E. and Olive Wood Weber. Mary was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School and before her retirement was employed as a telephone operator for the former Jamestown Telephone Company. She also served as a foster parent and provided child care in her home for many years. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. In earlier years she was active in the Parent Teacher Association and was instrumental in the formation of the Block Program in Jamestown. She was also a member of the Robert P. Illig Chapter 47, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Surviving are her three children; William (Joyce) Sanford of Jamestown, Timothy (Debbie) Sanford of Perry, OH, Marie (Earl) Adams of Ravenna, OH, three grandchildren; Donald (Allison) Sanford, Thomas Sanford and Amanda Adams, a great granddaughter, Peyton Sanford and a brother Charles Weber of Frewsburg, NY. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Richard E. Sanford whom she married April 19, 1952 and who died December 1, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday in Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:45 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
