Obituary of Norman A. Nelson

Norman A. Nelson, 81, of Jamestown, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA. A lifelong area resident, he was born November 28, 1933 in Jamestown, a son of the late Elmer and Beatrice Amsdell Nelson. Norman was a 1951 graduate of Jamestown High School and a two year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from July 1956 until June 1958. He was owner of Nelson Dairy Farm, together with his late father, Elmer and late brother, Roger. Norman was a life member of the Kiantone Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed frequently attending car auctions in Corry and Erie Pa., as well as area farm auctions. A member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, he had also been a member of the Stillwater United Methodist Church and more recently attended Martin Road Christian Fellowship. Norm and his wife, Joyce, especially enjoyed traveling to Cape Coral, FL and spending time with family and their dog, Cody. Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Joyce O'Brien Nelson, whom he married October 23, 1970 at Stillwater United Methodist Church; a daughter, Lori (Larry) Studley of Ashville, NY and a son, Command Sgt. Major Daniel (Amy) Gustafson of Pinehurst, NC; and a sister, Cheryl Nelson of Jamestown. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Logan, Lily and Luke Studley of Ashville, NY, Morgan Taylor of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Kate Myers of Jamestown, Paige Gustafson of San Diego, CA and Ryan Gustafson of Hope Mills, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Myers who died May 10, 2010; a brother, Roger Nelson; and a nephew, Ted Moll, II. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Don Cox of Martin Road Christian Fellowship will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd., Jamestown, NY 14701; or the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, P.O. Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240-0631.
