Obituary of John S. Ferraro

John S. Ferraro, 87, of 16 Bentley Avenue, Lakewood, passed away peacefully Monday, May 4, 2015 at the home of his daughter in Lakewood. A native of Falconer, he was born August 11, 1927, the son of the late Angelo Ferraro and Anna DiDio Ferraro Maoriana. He was a 1945 graduate of Falconer High School. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Army serving from 1945-46 as a drill sergeant. For 60 years he worked as a cement mason and brick layer and was a life member of Allied Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Union Local 40. During his career, he built bridges, roads, houses and many buildings across Western New York. He and his son, Daryl, worked side by side for many years, even after retirement. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His other memberships included the Celoron and Lakewood American Legions, the Gaeta Club where he played bocce, as well as being a former member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. In his younger years he was very athletic. He also was an avid bowler and enjoyed hunting with his brother Sam. He took great pride in his grandchildren and of all of their accomplishments. He lived life to the fullest with laughter and a smile. As he entered heaven he was sure to say, "Here's Johnny!" Surviving are four children Daryl Ferraro of Lakewood, Lori (John) Johnson of Pleasanton, CA, Steven Ferraro of Deer Field Beach, FL and Johneen (Joe) Hoose of Lakewood; eleven grandchildren Colette and Carly Johnson of Pleasanton, CA, Alexandra Ferraro of Lakewood. Tanner, Gabriella, Mason, Giuseppe, Gianna, Dontae, Neves and Tavio Hoose, all of Lakewood and a sister Angie Baldwin of Del Ray Beach, FL. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, the former Delores "Dee" Raeon, whom he married May 27, 1950 and who died November 9, 2008, He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Samuel Ferraro, Russell Ferraro and Joseph Ferraro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Msgr. Joseph M. Dowdell will be celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 6:45 p.m. Friday.
