Obituary of Phillip G. Griffin

Phillip Gordon Griffin, 83, of Sugar Grove, PA, passed away Wednesday June 17, 2015 in the Rouse Home, Youngsville, PA. A lifelong area resident, he was born February 17, 1932 in Kiantone, NY the son of the late Eldred L. and Mae E. Robbins Griffin. Phillip was a US Army Veteran, proudly serving in Korea from 1951 to 1954. He was an original member of the country band, "Slim Griffin and the Country Gentlemen" playing steel guitar for over 60 years at many venues around western New York, including 16 years at the Lakewood Legion, 12 years at Jamestown area Legions and for many years at the Busti Fire Hall. Phillip was a member of the American Legion. Surviving are his wife, Doris Furlow Griffin whom he married February 14, 2002; two daughters, Amy (Pat) Radack of Durham, NC; Christa (Howard) Moore of Falconer, NY; two sons, Bart (Toni) Griffin of Loris, SC; Dan (Gretchen) Griffin of NC; five grandchildren, Kyle, Kevin, Anna, Abbey, and Keifer; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Shawn; a brother, Eldred "Slim" (Judy) Griffin of Kennedy, NY; two sisters, Kay ( the late Lee) Jewell of Fredonia, NY; Gayle (Gary) Stevens of Sugar Grove, PA; a sister-in-law, Mary Griffin of Busti, NY; three step sons, Ken Mesel, Norm Mesel, and Pat Buck; a stepdaughter, Connie Sellers; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kayla Radack; and a brother, Gary L. Griffin. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday June 19 in the Lind Funeral Home. His step son, Norm Mesel and Rev. Roy Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in Lottsville Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday June 18 in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Warren County, 2 W Crescent Park, Warren, PA 16365.
