Obituary of Mary M. Riolo

Mary Michos Riolo, 82, of Clifton Ave. Jamestown, died Thursday August 13, 2015 in WCA Hospital. A lifelong resident of Jamestown, she was born March 21, 1933, the daughter of Evangelos and Eleni Michos. A 1951 graduate of Jamestown High School, she went on to graduate from Jamestown Community College, received her BA degree cum Laude from Butler University and later her Social Work Master degree with honor from Case Western Reserve University. Mary was employed by the City of Jamestown Welfare Department where she was the Supervisor of the Child Welfare Division. She also worked as an Associate Director of the Philadelphia Childrens Aid Society Residential Treatment Division and returned to Jamestown to become the Social Work Director at the Jamestown General Hospital until its closing. Mary was a member of many state and local health and welfare organizations, was a founding member of Hospice of Western NY, was an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church where she and her late husband were among the original founders of the Yassou Festival. Mary was also a member of the Zonta Club of Jamestown since 1964 where she held many offices and was an Area Director of District IV. Surviving are her sisters and brothers; Jean M. Wardi of Pittsburgh, PA; Thomas Michos, Alexandra Michos, Elizabeth Michos, George Michos, and Crist (Robin) Michos, all of Jamestown; nieces and nephews; grand nieces and grand nephews; a step son Warren "Rick" (Faith) Riolo of Jamestown; a step daughter Maria Pritchard of Houston, TX; a step granddaughter Amy Riolo of Washington D.C.; and a step grandson Jeremy Riolo of Jamestown. Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent A. Riolo whom she married on December 30, 1978 and who died February 16, 2007; and an infant sister Katherine. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. George S. Zervos, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Trisagion Prayer service will be led at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
