Obituary of James R. Hoyt

James R. Hoyt, 93, of 430 East Ave Falconer, formerly of 124 Indiana Ave Jamestown, passed away Monday September 7, 2015 in his home. He was born October 22, 1921 in the Town of Ellicott the son of the late Irvin and Gladys Williams Hoyt. James was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving from 1940 until his discharge as 1st Lieutenant in 1945. James was an Automobile Mechanic, operating his own garage in Jamestown for many years. Previously he worked at Par-Ket Motors, Berglund Chevrolet, and McFadden Ford. He continued working well into his 80's at Wegmans where he was recognized as employee of the month. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. James was an avid bowler and golfer. He enjoyed following his grandchildren's sports activities. Surviving are a daughter, Sue McMurdy of Jamestown; a son, Danny O. Hoyt of Sun City, AZ; three grandchildren, Joe McMurdy of Dunkirk, NY; James McMurdy of Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC; Lauren (Cole) Reed of Phoenix, AZ; four great grandchildren, Chris Smith of Denver, CO; Kaitlyn McMurdy of Dunkirk; Josh McMurdy of Sumter, SC; Dylan Reed of Phoenix, AZ; a step daughter, Kathy (Tom) Bellucci of Gainesville, FL; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Fanny Svendsen Hoyt who died December 5, 1990; his second wife, Kay Gronquist Hoyt who died December 25, 2002; a son, J. Michael Hoyt; two sisters, Betty Johnson and Linda Sleigh; two brothers, Don and David Hoyt; and two step sons, Jon and Roger Gronquist. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
