Obituary of Harold W. Casler

Harold W. "Tip" Casler, 89, of 125 Greenhurst Village Drive, died October 3, 2015, in WCA Hospital. He was born August 11, 2015, in Mayville, a son of the late Floyd and Charlotte Thorton Casler. He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy serving from 1943-46. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Carpenter's Union Local 66 for many years. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Ira Lou Spring and Mayville American Legion Posts, Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post VFW, War Vets Recreation and Bemus Point Volunteer Frie Department. He played first base and pitched for Marlin Rockwell in the County and Municipal Baseball Leagues. He also refereed basketball and coached Babe Ruth Baseball in Bemus Point. Surviving are four children Timothy (Nicki) Casler and Deborah (Matt) Moore, both of Jamestown, Denise (Tim) Williams of Salisbury, NC and Thomas (Diane) Casler of Deltona, FL; a daughter-in-law Cindy Shults Casler of Jamestown; nine grandchildren including Kahlie Dahlbeck whom he raised following the death of her mother; nine great grandchildren and a sister Roberta "Sis" Bellardo of Westfield. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Janice Bailey Casler, whom he married November 8, 1947 and who died November 17, 2005; a daughter Diane Dahlbeck; a son Ted Casler, a grandson Dereck Casler; a sister Joyce Casler and three brothers Bob, Dave, and Larry Casler. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed.
