Obituary of Caryl E. Pearson

Caryl E. Pearson, formerly of the Hotel Jamestown, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing. A lifelong area resident, she was born in Jamestown on September 21, 1922. Caryl was a 1946 graduate of the New York State School for the Blind in Batavia, NY. A member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, she was a former president of the Christian League for the Handicapped, as well as past president of the Jamestown Blind Association. Caryl was very involved in and supportive of the Seeing Eye Dog Program. Over the years, she had owned three dogs herself and enjoyed giving educational programs in area schools. Surviving are three cousins: William (Ann) Harris of Lakewood, and David (Anita) Harris and Valerie (Steve) Hagglund, both of Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bertha Pearson; two brothers, Gordon and Lamont Pearson; and her devoted sister, Gladys Pearson. The funeral will be held at 4:30 P.M. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Soderberg will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for 1/2 hour prior to the service, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Blind Assoc., 510 W. Fifth St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
