Obituary of Philip M. DePonceau

Philip M. DePonceau, 80, of Heritage Village, formerly of 123 Weeks St., passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was born August 31, 1935 in Portland Mills, Pa, a son of the late Angelo and Nancy Geer DePonceau, He graduated from Kane High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Before retirement he was self employed doing contractor work and as an auctioneer. In earlier years he worked at Bush Industries. He was a member of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church and in earlier years attended Buffalo Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed antiques, wrote short stories and poetry, and loved photography, especially old barns. Philip is survived by his wife Suzanne Morton DePonceau, whom he married Oct. 16, 1997; two sons, Eric W. and Michael A. DePonceau, both of Salamanca; a stepdaughter, Yvette Winans of Lakewood, two stepsons, Mark Hemminger and Darrin Textor, both of Mayville; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Judith DePonceau of Hamburg. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Burlin DePonceau, whom passed away June 25, 1995; a daughter, Karen Flint, whom passed away April 25, 2010; three sisters Phyllis, Nancy, and Judith; and two brothers Jim and Bill DePonceau. A funeral service will be held on Saturday (December 5, 2015) at 3 p.m. in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan Bender, chaplain of Heritage Village, will officiate. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca. Friends will be received Saturday for two hours prior to the service, from 1-3 p.m.in the funeral home.
