Obituary of George N. Dimas

George N. Dimas, 91, of 516 Chautauqua Avenue, died Monday January 11, 2016, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. Coming to Jamestown in 1941, he was born November 8, 1924, in Rochester, NY, a son of the late Nicholas and Evelyn Theodore Dimas. He was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School. A WWII veteran of the US Army, he served from 1943-46, first in the Central European Campaign and later in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the Bronze Star. From 1948-56 he worked for Chautauqua County Highway Department in the survey and engineering section. In 1956 he received his Professional Land Surveying License and opened his own surveying business until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and also First Baptist Church where he served on the board of trustees, and as moderator and deacon. His other memberships include a 70 year member of the American Legion, New York State Professional Engineer Society Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Chapter, and serving as past president and the Falconer Lions Club, serving as past president and having perfect attendance for 36 years. Surviving are his wife the former Dorothy Fluent, whom he married April 25, 1953; two daughters Linda Olson of Jamestown and Susan (Hal) Piper of Pittsburgh, PA; four grandchildren Aaron (Gretchen) Piper of Saxonburg, PA, Maureen (Mike) Spolyar of Boston, MA, Mitchell Piper of Daleville, VA and Avery (Maria) Olson of Lakewood; four great grandchildren Audrina and Alexander Olson of Lakewood, Andrew Piper of Saxonburg and Nicholas Spolyar of Boston; a sister Helen (Ken) Bruner of Lakewood and two brothers Sam Dimas of Jamestown and Thomas Dimas of California. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Rev. George S. Zervos will be celebrant. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be led at 6 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Mt.
